This simple freeware application works pretty well, given how basic the interface is. It has two main features: to download FLV files from YouTube, and to convert them to most major formats. If there's a YouTube URL in your clipboard, it will automatically paste it for you when you click on the dialog box. From there, just hit OK and the downloading will commence. One more left-click is all it takes to load the file in the converter, which supports iPhone, iPod, PSP, cell phone, AVI, MP3, WMV, and Xvid. Surprisingly, there's also a basic video editor for cropping videos by time stamp. You can also cut out the sound when converting.
This is one of the lightest editors around, but the simplistic interface belies its functionality and it performs exactly as advertised. We'd like to see support in future editions for hunting down missing codecs, and version 2.1.5 and earlier won't work because of embed code changes on YouTube itself. Still, the YouTube Downloader is proof that not only is video-making accessible to everyone, so is video downloading and editing.

Trillian 5 beta for Windows is now here, looking good
We caught wind of a refresh to the Cerulean Studios' Trillian all-in-one IM app a month ago, and starting Monday, the refurbished Trillian 5 beta for Windows is open to all.
As promised, Trillian 5 beta (download) now integrates with LinkedIn and Foursquare social networking services (access this from the handy accounts ribbon on the buddy list), and it improves the behavior of Facebook and Twitter feeds. Foursquare users on Windows 7 computers will be able to check-in from Trillian 5 beta thanks to Windows 7's GPS support. In addition to reading feeds, you're able to set your status as well.
Using the social feeds wasn't as intuitive as we would have liked. You have to hover the cursor over the account listing and select the "pin" option from the context menu to get your feed to appear in the buddy list. You'll need to choose "share a message" to update your status.
We like being able to reorder the icons around the account ribbon on the top of the buddy list.
Trillian 5 sports a completely refashioned interface, from the buddy list to the chat windows, though some changes are subtle. You're now able to optionally disable toolbars to keep Trillian even lighter and leaner, and differentially resize separate areas of the buddy list. A "simple" view strips away avatars and friends' status updates to give you a condensed view of the buddy list. There's also a no-skin option for Windows Vista and Windows 7 users who choose the native glass border instead of either of the two of Trillian 5's skinning options (we vastly prefer Cobalt over Cordonata on Windows XP).
Though Trillian still took a fair amount of time to install, exiting and restarting the instant messaging client felt faster than previous builds, as promised. The company has also made efforts to streamline its registration process.
There is one more beta feature we'll all have to be patient to try out. Synchronizing chat history through your account so you can view it on any Trillian installation is one of the more-major features we anticipated. That one will appear in a subsequent beta build, along with a black theme, we're told.
Though we're saving our full judgment for the final release, we will say that this iteration is looking pretty good so far, minus a few usability quirks.

Software Review
Adobe Photoshop CS5 represents a large and impressive step forward in terms of workflow, productivity and feature convenience. If you're familiar with earlier versions of Photoshop, the first thing you'll notice is a marked enhancement in the convenience of your favorite tools, and the ease with which you can access and integrate them into your project. Compared to Photoshop CS4, its faster, smoother and more effective.
The veteran set of powerful imaging tools that Adobe Photoshop is so well known for have been updated to perform even better in CS5. For example, the core features Dodge, Burn, Sponge and Clone Stamp tools have been improved and simply work more efficiently - both by themselves and as a toolkit. The big successes of Photoshop CS4 such as Content Aware Fill and Edge Detection (which work to erase disruptive figures from an image without blemish and sharpen edges for clarity respectively) have kept their starting spot in the CS5 line-up, but their intuitivity and effectiveness have taken a step forward.
A series of new, fun tools have also been added, such as the color-aware painting brushes (which recognise colours in a picture and re-align the paintbrush accordingly, allowing even water colour-like effects), which, whilst not revolutionizing the Photoshop product, nonetheless provide hours of experimenting and some very stylish effects.
Primarily though, workflow and productivity is where Photoshop CS5's features come into their own. Never before has everything seemed so accessible and integrated into the overall editing process, simply in terms of location and compatibility of the tools.

Norton AntiVirus runs on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. Version 17.5.0.127 is the latest Windows build. Windows 7 support is in development for versions 2006 through 2008. Version 2009 has Windows 7 supported update already. Version 2010 natively supports Windows 7, without needing an update. Version 11.1.1 is the latest Mac build.

Version 2010 is now available. It was released on September 9, 2009.Several features have been updated in this release, including SONAR, now dubbed SONAR 2. It now uses more information to determine if an application is truly malicious. Norton Insight can present users with information about the origins, activities, and performance of applications along with reputation data. A new feature codenamed Autospy helps users understand what Norton did when malware was found. Previous releases removed threats on sight and quietly warned users, potentially confusing when users are deceived in downloading rogue security software. Much of this information is placed on the back of the main window; a toggle button switches between the sides.Symantec has also added Windows 7 support. Aside from that, Symantec has also added the Norton Download Insight to prevent drive by drive downloads.
BitDefender Antivirus
BitDefender is an antivirus software suite developed by Romania-based software company SOFTWIN. It was launched in November 2001, and is currently in its thirteenth version. The 2010 version was launched in August 2009, and it includes several protection and performance enhancements.The BitDefender products feature antivirus and antispyware, personal firewall, privacy control, user control and backup for corporate and home users. PC Tuneup is available in the Total Security Suite.

The BitDefender range includes antivirus products for home users, businesses, enterprise users and Internet service providers. Home editions support Microsoft Windows, Symbian OS, Windows Mobile and Mac OS X (Beta); business and enterprise editions support Microsoft Windows, Linux and FreeBSD. Bitdefender is designed to protect computers from viruses and spyware. Older versions of BitDefender are made available for free download when newer versions are released. The first version which was made freely available was version 6. As of May 2009, version 12 of BitDefender is freely available for download. Unlike the commercial version, the free version only offers an on-demand virus scanning and doesn't provide real time scanning, and may therefore be less suitable for machines with a continuous connection to the internet.

Recuva v1.38
In the past, data recovery programs have had the problem of potential destructive recovery. For example, if File A and File B are both deleted but accessible on your drive, recovering File A may involve overwriting the 'free' space taken up by File B.
We recommend that you recover files to a different drive than the one they were deleted from. If you don't have that option, you can now recover images to the Windows Clipboard, which means there's no risk of overwriting other files still to be recovered.
